Santa's coming to Neath

06 November 2012

Come and join in the Christmas fun this year as Neath gets ready to welcome the big man himself to town!

Councillor Alun Thomas

From 5.30pm on Friday 16th November in Angel Square, Kev Johns and Badger of Swansea Sound and The Wave will be entertaining the crowd with music and fun in readiness for the arrival of Father Christmas and his parade.

Santa's fabulous parade is due to leave Neath Civic Centre at 6pm and make its way through the town passing Victoria Gardens into Orchard Street and on to Angel's Square where he will be joined on stage by the Mayor and Mayoress of Neath Port Talbot for the big lights switch on at 6.30pm. Santa will say hello to the children and there'll be a few surprises in store so be sure to wrap up warm and bring the children along to welcome Santa to Neath. With selected shops and cafes open until 8pm there will be something for all the family.

Then on Saturday 17th November Santa opens his Grotto at Zoar's Ark Garden Centre so why not take the children along to meet him.

Council officers will be out and about making sure the groups taking part are organised ready for the procession.

As Santa and his parade make their way from Neath Civic Centre to Angel Square it will be necessary to stop the traffic for a short time.

Event Organiser, Suzette Phillips, has asked for drivers to be patient during the parade. She said, "Thousands of people come to see Father Christmas arrive in the town and it is the highlight of our Christmas celebrations.

"The Council tries to make Christmas a magical time for children and hope that drivers will be tolerant while they wait for the parade to pass.

"Safety is paramount when crowds are lining the streets and officers need to be vigilant and follow all safety precautions as far as traffic is concerned."

Roads affected from approximately 5.45pm for up to 30 minutes will be Water Street, St. David's Street, Orchard Street and New Street.

Anyone wishing to join in the fun and get involved in the parade should contact Special Events on 01639 860008 or email for further information.

There are prizes of up to £120 for the winners of the best dressed group in the Father Christmas Parade and anyone wishing to join in the fun and get involved should contact Special Events on 01639 860008 or email for further information.
