NPT Schools banding success
18 December 2012
The majority of secondary schools in Neath Port Talbot have been placed in Band 1 of the Welsh Government's banding model.
The model is based mainly on Key Stage 4 outcomes relating to the national priorities of literacy and numeracy and reducing the impact of deprivation on attainment.
Six schools are in Band 1, two schools are in Band 2 and three schools are in Band 3. There are no Band 4 or 5 schools in the authority. This reflects the outstanding examination results secured in Summer 2012.
Council Leader, Cllr Ali Thomas said, "All schools can be proud of their performance and I am extremely pleased with the banding position of our schools. It reflects the outstanding leadership and dedication of staff within our schools and our school improvement service."
Director of Education, Leisure and Lifelong Learning, Karl Napieralla OBE said, "Once again our schools have shown that they are delivering high quality learning experiences that allow pupils to secure excellent outcomes in key priority areas."
The list is as follows:
Band 1: Dyffryn, Dŵr y Felin, Glan Afan, Cwmtawe, Ystalyfera, Cwrt Sart.
Band 2: Cefn Saeson, Llangatwg.
Band 3:Cymer Afan, Sandfields, St Joseph's.
