River Festival 2005
The River Festival took place at Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre
and Ponds on August 9th. The event was organised by four
Communities First area’s – Upper Afan Valley First, Fairyland
Brynbrythyn and Penllyn, Pelenna First and Sandfields First. Neath
Port Talbot Council for Voluntary Services and Glyncorrwg Mountain
Bike Centre were also involved in the organisation of the
event.
The event was organised as a celebration of the River with the
aim of bringing together various service providers in the area in
order to provide a free family fun day with free activities for the
children of the Afan Valley.
The event was very well attended by over 500 people, and there
were activities all afternoon to keep the children entertained –
these ranged from canoeing (Afan Paddlers), fishing (The
Environment Agency), Pond Dipping (Keep Wales Tidy), water
experiments, crafts, bouncy castle/slide, children’s entertainers
to advice from the Community Police, St Johns Ambulance, Local
Action Centre, Action Team For Jobs and the Cancer Carer’s Group.
We had a very positive response from all the people who attended
and the general feeling was that we should organise this event
every year.
By Joanne, Carol and Gabrielle – Community First
Co-ordinators.
