Winner:- The Towers Hotel, Jersey Marine, Neath
Contractor:- The Towers Hotel

The current owners of the Towers Hotel have an ongoing program
of redevelopment, the latest scheme being the refurbishment of the
observation tower.
The original Tower dates back to Victorian times and was a four
storey octagonal tower built of red brick measuring 17metres high.
It had arched windows, a conical roof, flagpole, and camera
obscurer.
Being a listed building, the original brick-built structure had
to be retained but was considered unsuitable to carry increased
loadings. Consequently an independent foundation and ground floor
slab was cast within the confines of the existing octagonal walls,
which supports an independent steel structure.
The building now boasts a stunning combination of Victorian
architecture combined with an individually designed contemporary
Interior. A chapel is housed on the ground floor, and the remaining
floors house bedroom accommodation with the top floor having a
mezzanine-sleeping gallery, with an unrivalled 360-degree view of
Swansea Bay and beyond.
The owners and developers have and have acted sympathetically in
combining the needs of both planning constraints and the
requirement to satisfy building regulations, resulting in a
completed building to be proud of.
