Carers Assessment
To work out what services would be helpful in your situation, a
social worker needs to discuss:
- the help the person you care for needs
- the help you are giving at the moment
- the services your council may provide.
The way this is done is called an ‘assessment’.
The Carers Assessment is an opportunity to tell a social worker about
the things that could make caring easier for you.
An assessment helps us plan how we can support you in what you do. If
you are only giving a small amount of care, we may not offer you a full
assessment, but may still be able to help.
Note: This describes carers' rights to assessment under the
Carers (Recognition and Services) Act 1995. The Act does not apply to
people who are paid to care or who volunteer as carers through an
organisation.
