Achievements Report
The Neath Port Talbot Communities First Achievements Report
2002 – 2006 is a new publication aiming to show how the Communities
First programme works and what it has achieved so far during its
time in Neath Port Talbot.
The Communities First coordinators, with help from the central
support team and CFSN (Communities First Support Network), devised
a series of performance indicators to attempt to quantify the
outcomes of their work during the first four years of the programme
in Neath Port Talbot.
The five key indicators they decided upon are listed below, and
the figures collated for each aim to measure the progress made
towards important factors in the community development process
undertaken.
- Development of community groups
Over 400 community organisations in the county borough have
received support from Communities First, with at least 50 new
groups formed.
- Influencing service delivery
There are over 65 examples of Communities First influencing service
delivery, of which 41 were changes to existing provision; 22 were
new projects established to meet identified community need; and 3
were instances of major projects funding bids supported by
Communities First consultation.
- Development of skills and confidence of participants
Over 1100 community members show evidence of growing in skills and
confidence through involvement in over 160 local activities. Over
300 community members have attended training courses as a result of
their involvement in the programme.
- Reaching the “hardest to reach”
Over 800 people deemed hardest to reach have participated in 55
different targeted projects across Neath Port Talbot.
- Promoting access to services
Over 120 different local services and activities have been
promoted, with 52 examples of service providers reporting an
increased uptake or participation following promotion by
Communities First.
These figures are supported by case studies from the Communities
First areas across the county borough to show the range of work
that is occurring, and to exemplify the two key elements of the
programme necessary to achieve this: Community Participation and
Partnership Working.
