Action Plan

Background

Each Partnership is encouraged to prepare a Community Action Plan. This should set out a vision for the future of the community and how that will be achieved.

The Action Plan should be based on an analysis of all the evidence gathered by the Co-ordinator and Partnership. This will include a profile of the community, statistical analysis and, most importantly, consultation with the community. Part of the Plan will be a description of this 'baseline'.

From this, certain priorities will emerge. These should be the community's priorities, but should also be confirmed by statistics and the views of other partners. The Partnership should seek to address the key themes of Communities First over the life of the programme.

The Plan will then outline how the partners are going to work together to address these priorities. The Plan is likely to include new projects and improvements/developments to existing ones; it can also include ways in which partners are going to change how they work or work together more effectively in response to community consultation.

Projects in the Action Plan can apply to the Assembly for Communities First funding, with the endorsement of the Partnership. However, wherever possible other sources of funding should be sought so that the maximum possible resources are drawn into the community.

Each project should have targets so that its success can be monitored. In addition, the Partnership should define some headline outcomes that it hopes will be achieved in the community over the 10-year period and state how they will monitor and evaluate the Plan.

Finally, each Plan should show how it fits into the bigger picture and links to the Borough's Community Plan.

The Plan is not a document that will be finished once and for all, but one that can be updated with experience. As drafts become available we will post them on this website.

Briton Ferry West

The action plan summarises the overall vision and priorities of the Communities First partnership for Briton Ferry West, as identified through community consultations, local surveys and available statistics. Projects both existing and planned, and priorities covering seven key themes are identified, and the document also provides historical, geographical, statistical and strategic information to put this work into context. Examples of previous work undertaken and full contact details are also included.

Pelenna

The Pelenna Action plan has been brought together after consultation with the community, which included using household surveys and focus groups, in order to have a list of priorities, thematically, which will be addressed.

Partnership working is important and will be well utilised.

Sandfields

This document is broken down into a series of themes. Each theme gives a description of what is already available in the community, priorities for the future, and projects to meet these priorities. The Partnership publishes a quarterly report on its website that outlines the progress on these projects. Each theme has a sub-group that is open to anyone who wishes to contribute. The Plan is available on the Sandfields First website (follow the link below).

Please contact the co-ordinator, Christine Esposito, if you can contribute to the delivery of this Plan (christine.sf@btconnect.com)

Upper Afan Valley

The action plan for the Upper Afan Valley was brought together after the co-ordinator collated many forms of consultation that had been completed in the valley over the last decade. This was then combined with more recent forms of consultation in order to prioritise the actions created. This action plan is now being implemented in the area and is a working document for the local community.

Upper Dulais Valley

Draft - Nov. 2004

Sets out a detailed profile of the community and the 12 major issues they wish to address. This draft has been distributed for consultation. They particularly welcome views on how they can most effectively address their priorities.

Draft - Nov. 2006

The action plan supplements the original community profile by setting out the strategies drawn up by the partnership and defining the work programme of the Communities First team arising from the priorities identified in the initial document.

Ystalyfera & Godre'rgraig

The action plan assesses the needs of the communities as identified through a variety of consultation methods with local residents. Background information to explain the inclusion of the area in the Communities First programme and analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the community put these needs into context. Specific aims, and measures to achieve these, are outlined under eight key themes, as well as the partner organisations needed to support this process. The projects are categorised using a ‘Traffic Light’ system to indicate their current stage of progression.

Please send feedback to the co-ordinator, Ryland Doyle (r.doyle@npt.gov.uk)
