Neath Port Talbot Domestic Abuse Forum
The forum has strong representation from both voluntary and
statutory agencies and supports the Communities First Domestic
Violence Partnership.
The Forum pursues a strategic role that allows it to develop
work that has been identified through All Wales Strategy. Since the
employment of its co-ordinator the Forum has agreed its terms of
reference, and areas of development that are:
- To develop a Specialist Domestic Violence Court for Neath Port
Talbot;
- To implement an education programme into schools;
- To raise awareness of Domestic Abuse within the health sector
and develop actions to identify and signpost victims of domestic
abuse in local A&E Departments, and throughout the health
sector.
Communities First Community of Interest for Domestic
Violence
This was established under the Communities First Programme in
2001. Unlike the geographical ward basis of Communities First, the
domestic violence partnership covers the whole county borough and
is the only community of interest for domestic violence in
Wales.
It is based on the same principal as the geographical areas of
developing a partnership of one third statutory organisation, one
third voluntary organisation and one third community
representation; in this case those who have experienced domestic
violence.
Local Women’s Aid groups and the police have been instrumental
in encouraging participation of community representatives and the
employment of the community and minority development workers will
aid this process.
