Community Safety

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 placed a joint statutory duty on local authorities and the Police service to tackle crime and disorder. The Community Safety Team work in partnership with the police, statutory and voluntary agencies, the business community and local community groups to co-ordinate and implement a range of crime prevention initiatives based on crime and disorder issues in the area.

Strategy Launch

Every three years the partnership produce an Audit of crime, disorder and substance misuse for the Borough. The public are consulted on the findings of the audit, the Partnership then establish the public’s priorities for action resulting in the publication of a three-yearly crime, disorder and substance misuse reduction strategy. A new strategy for keeping local communities safe was launched on the 15th August by co-chairs of the Partnership Chief Executive, Ken Sawyers and Superintendent, Cliff Filer.

Over the last three years the Partnership has had significant success in achieving its strategic objectives. The priorities for this, the third strategy of its kind to be produced in the Borough, are to reduce crime, tackle anti-social behaviour, raise awareness of the risk of domestic violence, cut business crime, develop awareness of and tackle substance misuse, and reduce the fear of crime.

These pages provide details of the partnerships aims and objectives, information on relevant organisations and contact details. If you have any comments or suggestions, please add them to the feedback form.
