Appeals
Appeals against valuation bands - General
You can appeal against your property's valuation band:
- within six months of becoming the Council Tax payer, as long as
the last Council Tax payer for the property did not make an
appeal;
- if there is a 'material reduction' in the value of your
property (for example, if part of the property is demolished, or if
there are physical changes to the area); or
- if the Valuation Office change the valuation band.
The Valuation Office can increase the valuation band of a
property if there has been a 'material increase' in its value (for
example, if the property is extended). This increase in the
valuation band will not take effect until you sell the
property.
If you appeal against your valuation band, you must continue to
pay your Council Tax bill while you are waiting for the appeal to
be settled. We will refund any overpayment of Council Tax you
make.
