A Neath Town Centre Partnership Forum was established under the
lead of the Economic Development Team in 1998. This included the
creation of the post of town centre manager. The role of the
manager is to coordinate the activities of the Forum and strengthen
links between the public and private sectors in improving the
attractiveness and commercial competitiveness of the town centre.
The Forum provides opportunities for all stakeholders to be
actively involved in the future development and management of the
town centre. The partnership is currently represented by a
multitude of groups, companies and individuals with an interest in
the town centre.
The partnership structure is made up of the Forum itself, which
provides the general direction, a steering group acting as a
management team, and a series of topic specific groups responsible
for taking action. These include Crime and Disorder, Youth,
Marketing, Accessibility and the Environment. The groups come under
the lead of nominated volunteer representatives from the wider
partnership.
The Forum is consulted as part of an ongoing process on the
Council's regeneration programmes for the town centre and in
establishing priorities for it. It is also being used to assess
demand for potential new schemes, such as commercial property and
Town Scheme grants, and to promote new initiatives when they are
launched. See the Physical Regeneration
section of this site for more details on these.
