Company prosecuted by Trading Standards

A firm have seen themselves in Crown Court this week, after being found guilty of selling a dangerous footstool.
Local authority Trading Standards officers were called in to investigate the complaint from a member of the public in July 2008.
Major Import, Export Limited was fined £ £1,000 for each of the three counts. The company Director, Mehboob Dudhwala was fined £500 for each of the 3 counts against him, and ordered to pay costs of £2044.95 within 3 months. The court also imposed an Order to forfeit and destruct all of the footstools seized by officers.
Speaking after the case, Council Leader Ali Thomas said, "Trading standards officers are combating the sale of dangerous goods to protect shoppers".
He added, "A series of safety tests were carried out on all footstools of this design. They have since been removed from sale".
