Encouragement for budding entrepreneurs in Neath Port Talbot
27 January 2012
Budding entrepreneurs in Neath Port Talbot are being encouraged to start their own business.
Year 11 students, county borough wide, have teamed up with the Sandfields Young Business Centre in Port Talbot to explore self employment opportunities.
The Young Business Centre team are working in partnership with Career Wales West to offer this exciting opportunity. The pupils will have a tour of the small businesses trading at the Centre to see how they operate on a day to day basis.
The two hour tour will include information on loans and grants as well as financial and practical support on offer to young people. Pupils will also have the chance to listen to the experiences of a young business entrepreneur at the Centre. They will take away a certificate of participation to support their Welsh Baccalaureate studies.
The aim is to raise awareness of how good ideas can be turned into small businesses which, in turn, leads to more jobs.
"Making sure that young people know about self employment is important when choosing their future careers," says Council Leader Ali Thomas.
"The best way to do this is to give them plenty of information so that they are well informed in terms of support and mentoring."
First to go out and about with the team is Llangatwg Comprehensive School next week with other schools following in February and March.
Councillor Thomas added, "We need to keep our promising young entrepreneurs in Neath Port Talbot, they are the small businesses of the future who will provide local jobs."
