Policy for Waste Minimisation, Re-Use and Recycling

To contribute to the Authority's Corporate and Community Plan aims of minimising harm to the environment and encouraging sustainability through landfill avoidance.

The Council will: -

  • Meet or better the Welsh Assembly Government targets for recycling and composting
  • Promote waste minimisation initiatives to assist the council achieve Welsh Assembly Government waste reduction and stabilisation targets for household waste.
  • Support and promote national waste prevention and minimisation initiatives.
  • Consult with the public on waste minimisation and recycling issues.
  • Work towards improving public attitudes towards waste reduction in order to assist in the prevention and minimisation of waste.
  • Provide 'Bring Recycling' facilities at various locations throughout the County Borough to complement the kerbside collection service.
  • Promote Home Composting and 'Re-use' of materials as a means of reducing waste to landfill
  • Restrict Household Waste and Recycling Centres to non-commercial waste only.
  • Develop a plan for the minimisation of construction and demolition waste through re-use and recycling.
  • Raise Council employee awareness of waste minimisation, re-use and recycling practices through press releases, internal bulletins, the intranet and induction processes.
