Policy for Road Safety Education, Training and Publicity
To contribute to Corporate and
Community Plan aims, and Welsh Assembly Government
objectives, of reducing road casualties. We aim to achieve this by
ensuring that Road Safety Education, Training and Publicity is
delivered to all road users, to bring about attitude and
behavioural change, and promote road accident prevention in line
with the Government’s casualty reduction targets to be achieved by
2010.
In pursuit of the above we do the following:
Develop
strategies, programmes and activities in order to influence road
user behaviour
- A Road Safety Plan
- A Road Safety Unit Business Plan
- A curriculum linked road safety education programme for
schools
- An Integrated Transport Education programme for secondary
schools
- Junior Road Safety Officers Clubs in primary schools
- Safe Routes to School
- School Travel Plans
- Provide training and education for safe movement on the road
for those who live, work and travel in Neath Port Talbot
principally through :
- Child Pedestrian training
- Cyclecraft training
- Pre-driver training
- A Driver Improvement scheme
- A Motorcycle training scheme
- Promote the use of publicity to raise awareness of road safety
and accident risk through:
- The Drink Drive Summer and Christmas campaigns
- The Seat Belt Campaign
- The Mobile phone use campaign
- Child car seats
- The Mid and South Wales Safety Camera Partnership
This policy has cross cutting themes, and complements and
