Wales Biodiversity Week and International Year of Biodiversity
2010
Join us on Saturday 12th June at the Gnoll Country
Park for the third annual event to celebrate Wales
Biodiversity Week.
This year is set to be bigger and better as
2010 has been declared the International Year of Biodiversity by
the United Nations. It is the year that celebrates the
diversity of life on Earth, including every plant, animal and
micro-organism. It is also an opportunity for us to
promote the wider benefit that biodiversity has, including clean
air, reducing soil erosion, pollination by our insects and
giving us fantastic, natural places to visit.
Neath Port Talbot Council, in
partnership with The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales, South
Wales Police, Swansea and District Beekeepers’ Society, local
artists volunteers and wildlife experts, will introduce you to some
of the wildlife you'll find in our area.
A range of activities have been
organised which will provide you with ideas to take home of ways in
which you can help our wildlife. There will be plenty of
things to have a go at and for those of you who fancy some night
time exploration, a bat walk will take place at dusk (from 9pm),
where you can have a go at tracking down a bat with your own bat
detector.
There are also plenty of ways
for you get involved again in the future. There are new
Wildlife Walk leaflets which are
available at the event and there are lots of ideas for
wildlife friendly activities on our webpages. Please keep an
eye on the website also for other events that will be coming up in
the future.
This event is funded by
the Countryside Council for Wales and is supported by members
of the Neath Port Talbot Biodiversity Forum.
