Planning & Building Control
Building Control
The Building Control Section aims to provide a
customer friendly service of the highest standard.
Our officers have an indepth knowledge of building construction
and a detailed understanding of the Building Regulations and how
they are applied.
We are independent and are not employed by any party involved in
the building project. Our only interest is that the building work
complies with the required legislation.

Our officers are committed to the provision of a Local Authority
based Building Control service. Unlike the private sector we are
accountable through Council Members.
We are responsible for the control of building development to
ensure that health and safety standards are achieved in
construction and means of escape and to ensure that minimum
standards are achieved in energy efficiency and access for the
disabled.
The service is in competition with the private sector and all
work is fee earning, with the exception of work designed to provide
access or facilities for the disabled.
The service must be self financing over 3 year periods.
In addition, the service is responsible for dealing with
Dangerous Structures under the Building Act and functions under the
Safety at Sports Grounds Act.
Our staff are available to assist you in any queries that you
may have and will be pleased to offer any pre application
advice.
Site inspections are guaranteed for the same working day if the
request is made before 10.00am, but we will endeavor to fulfill any
requests made later.
