A Carer is a person who provides unpaid help on a regular basis to a relative, neighbour or friend who is unable to manage at home due to sickness, age or disability.   • Looking after a child with special needs or an adult 
  • Caring for someone elderly and frail
  • Caring for someone with a physical disability
  • Caring for someone with learning disabilities
  • Caring for someone with mental health problems 
  • Caring alone or sharing the task with others 
  • Sharing a home with the person you care for or living somewhere else.

Carers may help with things like dressing or bathing, as well as giving all kinds of practical and emotional support.

Latest News - Welsh Government Consultation Document Refreshing the Carers Strategy for Wales

This consultation seeks views on a draft refresh of the Carers Strategy for Wales. The refreshed Strategy sets the strategic direction for carers policy up to 2015 and contains key actions the Welsh Government intends to take to achieve positive outcomes for carers. It is arranged around five key priority areas: health and social care; information, identification and consultation; young carers and young adult carers; support and a life beyond caring; and carers and employment.
