Support for Carers

Caring for someone can be very rewarding; it can also be demanding and stressful. For support from people who understand what it is like to be a carer, contact:

• Neath Port Talbot Carers Service  offers a wide range of services including support, information, listening, activities /groups and a regular newsletter for all Adult Carers living in Neath Port Talbot. Home visits are available if you are unable to travel. For further information telephone (01639) 642277

• Swansea Neath Port Talbot Crossroads offers flexible respite to Carers of all ages allowing them ‘time to themselves’. This service is available to the cared for person when it is most needed, to relieve the Carer. It includes: General support, outings/social activities/appointments, personal care – e.g. bathing & dressing, shopping etc. In addition they provide a Weekend Day Centre (small attendance fee is charged) and a Young Carers Project which provides respite and support to Carers between the ages of 8 and 18 years, free of charge. • The Alzheimer’s Society runs Carers’ support groups and regular information sessions for carers. They also offer a sitting service for people with dementia. For further information telephone (01639) 633400 or (01639) 862879.
 
• Hafal provides information and support to carers and has a Carers Group which meets monthly. For more information telephone (01639) 899122.
