Margam Festival of Music and Arts 2008
It gives me
great pleasure once again to welcome you to the Margam Festival,
which is the seventh year that this major cultural event has been
held. Once again we are indebted to the generous support of General
Electric, who play such an active role in supporting community
development in the Port Talbot area.
This year’s programme will depart from previous years in that it
will not be concentrated in one ten day block, but will be spread
out during the month of July. The programme will build on the
successful acts of the past whilst introducing new topical ones.
This is in keeping with our aim to provide a broader range for you,
the public. Amongst these will be an event recognising that 2008 is
the National Year of Reading and I am proud to inform you that the
Margam Festival has been chosen as the venue for the announcement
of the Long List for the international Dylan Thomas Prize.
Why not take the opportunity to experience the whole of the
festival this year by taking advantage of the Season Ticket Offer
(see conditions below)* I should like to record my thanks to
the Festival Committee, who have developed an exciting programme
and who I know would like to see you at Margam this year.

GE Energy, owner of Baglan Bay Power Station, is delighted
to be sponsoring the Margam Festival for a magnificent seventh
successive year. This year, the organisers have decided to
introduce a slightly modified formula, which we trust will appeal
to our regular patrons as well as making the Festival more
accessible to new audiences. Instead of the customary fortnight,
the Festival will extend over the entire month of July and it is
hoped that in broadening the period in this way, those who are
customarily away for a few week’s holiday in July, will still be
able to take in some of the performances.
The 2008 programme is a blend of popular performances together
with some new features providing a wide variety of examples of the
performing arts. As well as attending your existing favourites, why
not give some of the new events a try and perhaps these too will be
added to your list of features not to be missed. GE Energy is most
grateful to Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council employees for
their hard work in making the Festival happen and to the performers
who every year inspire us with their talent and dedication,
together with those who encourage and support them.
You may have read that GE is intending to sell Baglan Bay Power
Station and this is likely to take place before the 2009 Margam
Festival. We will be encouraging any new buyer to continue the
traditional support given by GE Energy. We wish the Festival every
success in the future and are confident that the foundations exist
for it to grow from strength to strength. Please continue to give
the Festival and the organisers your full support. On behalf of GE
may I thank all who attend this year together with those who have
loyally supported this prestigious event during the period of our
sponsorship. With best regards, Bruce Heppenstall, Managing
Director Baglan Operations Limited, GE Energy
