Entrepreneurship
Developing entrepreneurship in Neath Port Talbot has been a key
part of our economic development strategy since the Authority was
established in 1996, particularly in developing young people as the
business leaders of tomorrow.
The recently-expanded Sandfields Business
Centre is the flagship for our initiatives providing
accommodation for young business people under the age of 31.
Through supporting and resourcing the Young Enterprise
initiative in schools, we ensure that business skills are developed
early on.
“Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs”, an annual one day business game for
teams of 14 year olds in Neath Port Talbot, organised by the
Economic Development Unit, reinforces the concept of
self-employment as a career option.
We are a leading partner in the Swansea Bay Industry Week
partnership and demonstrate our commitment by organising the
Swansea Bay Youth Challenge Awards as one of the main events of the
week. The Awards showcase the best that Swansea Bay has to offer in
the following categories: Young Entrepreneur, Young Enterprise
Company, Modern Apprentice/Trainee, New Dealer and Young
Citizen.
Our long-established membership of the All Wales Women’s
Enterprise Action Group meant that we played a key role in the
establishment of the Objective 1 and Welsh Development Agency (WDA)
funded Women's Enterprise Wales project which we continue to
support.
