Ways to Play

Clipart: Boy playing in large empty cardboard boxOpen Access

All of our sessions are run as Open Access schemes, which offer free play opportunities in such a way that children can only be supervised whilst on site and participating in the scheme's activities. Children can not be confined to the Sessions or grounds or prevented from coming and going as they please. We are also not able to escort your children home.

We must emphasise that we are not providing sessional care. Therefore we strongly recommend that you take every precaution to ensure their well being before, after and during the session so that there is no danger of them wandering off.

Pods

Pods are porta-cabins which are a base for play workers as well as somewhere we can store our equipment. Play workers come along to the pod and run open-access adventure play sessions that you can come along to and join in with. We’re there in all weathers, but we can also play inside the pod if you don’t want to be out in the rain and the cold.

Adventurous play

Adventurous play is where children can play in their natural environment, which also means playing in the mud and the rain! We do things like making dens, tents and swings, mud and water slides, bike ramps with cardboard boxes, circus skills, soft play and all sorts of games! For more information, e-mail us, or call us. Look at our contacts page for our numbers!

Playgrounds and Parks

Playgrounds and Parks have play equipment like swings and climbing frames.

MUGA

MUGA stands for Multi-Use Games Areas. They can have things like basketball hoops and football goals.

Play events

Play events are one off events in parks or other public spaces. There may be artists, entertainers, sports coaches or playworkers bringing a choice of activities.

Play Centres

Play Centres are open access centres available outside school hours with activities organised by playworkers.

Street closures

Street closures occur when a street has been closed off to traffic, turning it into a play space for a day or half a day.

Mobile Play

Mobile Play can vary from a double-decker playbus full of play activities to play workers visiting local areas, to mobile toy libraries.

Play Rangers

Play Rangers are play workers who go out to meet children in their parks, taking equipment and materials and encouraging them to play.

Homezones

Homezones are initiatives being piloted in parts of the country, with the aim of making streets a safer place to play. See their website for details.
