Social Care in
Partnership (South West Wales)
Social Care In Partnership (South West Wales)
Social Care In Partnership (SW) or SCIP (SW) as it is known, is
one of the four regional partnerships across Wales, for whom we
cover the counties of Neath Port Talbot, Swansea, Carmarthenshire
and Pembrokeshire.
You can visit our full web pages, supported by the Social
Services Improvement Agency web site at www.ssiacymru.org.uk/scip
where you will find details on the Partnership - such as its
structure, membership, and business pans, as well as information on
funding, learning and recruitment opportunities. Our Communications
page provides information to the public on the Partnership’s
progress via bulletins, newsletters, etc and since January 2005 the
Partnership has been offering member organizations an opportunity,
to advertise free of charge, social care related job vacancies.
However, for information please find below a brief overview of
the partnership:
Who are we?
Following recommendations from the establishment of a Task and
Finish Group on Workforce issues in Social Care in 2001, four
Regional Partnerships were set up across Wales, covering the North,
Mid, South East and South West regions. SCIP (SW) is the corporate
identify taken by the Regional Social Care Partnership for South
West Wales, which supports the Neath Port Talbot, Swansea,
Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire counties.
Why do we exist?
The Partnership enables employers and other key stakeholders
within the social care sector to work together to address some of
the workforce retention, recruitment and development challenges
that face the sector in each region.
What is the Partnerships role?
Essentially it is the Partnerships role to enhance, support and
raise awareness of the social care sector within South West
Wales.
As an independent, voluntary Partnership, the co-ordinator is
the only full time paid member. As such they are supported by a
voluntary Strategic Steering Group which meets quarterly. SCIP (SW)
strategic steering group is chaired by Mr Colin Preece, Director of
Social Services, Health & Housing, Neath Port Talbot County
Borough Council.
This strategic steering group, whose composition broadly
reflects the make up of the Partnership, includes representatives
from local authority social services, voluntary and independent
providers, ELWa, Careers Wales West and HE/FE Education.

(SW) steering and task groups, please visit our web pages at

All Wales Partnership Relations
Although each Regional Partnership is autonomous within its own
region, the four co-ordinators meet on a quarterly basis to share
good practice and identify collaborative work on an All Wales
