to parents, teachers, governors, other
professionals and members of the public who are interested in how
Neath Port Talbot LEA provide support for children and young people
in our schools.

21,500 pupils are educated in Neath Port Talbot by 1374
teachers, in 73 primary school, 11 comprehensive schools and 2
special schools. A full list of these

The majority of children and young people in Neath Port Talbot
are educated in mainstream schools. Some children may require
support at some time during their school lives. Schools can access
advice from the LEA following the guidance contained in the
Entry / Exit Criteria –
A Graduated Response (COP). This document gives local guidance
in line with the Code of Practice for Wales 2002 (WAG).
For the children and young people who may require more
specialised support some of our mainstream schools have Learning Support Centres (LSC) attached.
Some of the children and young people who attend these Learning
Support Centres may be eligible for transport. The transport policy
is currently being updated.
All the children who currently attend the Learning Support
Centres and Special Schools in Neath Port Talbot have a Statement
which is a legal document outlining the nature of their Special
Educational Needs and the provision that they are entitled to. For
