Unitary Development Plan

Message: September 2008

UDP Adoption

Councillor D Lewis (David)
Cllr. David Lewis.
Cabinet Member with responsibility for the Unitary Development Plan.

The Unitary Development Plan was adopted on the 26th March 2008. It is now the development plan for the whole of the Neath Port Talbot area. It replaces the West Glamorgan Structure Plan, Minerals Local Plan, and the local plans that previously covered the area.

The Notice of Adoption together with statements on the Strategic Environmental Assessment and the Habitats Directive (Appropriate Assessment) were published on the 17th April 2008.

The Notices, the adopted UDP (text and proposals maps), the SEA and Habitat Directive statements and the Development Plan Index are available on this website (see below). They are also available for inspection at libraries within the County Borough, the Neath and Port Talbot Civic Centres and the First Stop Shop in Pontardawe.

The Authority resolved on the 24th July 2008 to conclude the exercise of its powers concerning the Unitary Development Plan.

Supplementary and Interim Planning Guidance

The following guidance was adopted on 9th July 2008 to support and explain the policies in the UDP.  All these documents aim to help explain to applicants, landowners, developers, interested groups and the community how the Authority is likely to consider proposals and the information and action that is likely to be required from applicants.

The SPG and IPG listed above were adopted by the Authority on the 9th July as guidance supporting and explaining the policies in the UDP and the Authority’s Approach to TAN8 : Renewable Energy.  The Authority determined that as the documents relate  to guidance and explanations and not policy, the undertaking of Strategic Environmental Assessment under the Environmental Assessment of Plans and Progress (Wales) Regulations 2004 was not required.
