Means Tested Benefits

Not working OR working “part-time”

Claimant working LESS THAN 16 hours a week or partner less than 24 hours

  • Income Support or Income based JSA
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • The Social Fund
  • Health Benefits
  • Education Benefits

Working “full-time”

If you are working MORE than 16 hours weekly or if your partner is working for over 24 hours.

By switching the claim you can choose whether to go for IS/JSA or WTC (check the figures).

  • Working Tax Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Social Fund: Crisis Loans and Funeral/Maternity Expenses only
  • Health Benefits: but no milk tokens
  • Education Benefits: but no free school meals

In all cases

  • Child Tax Credit

Non-Means Tested Benefits

Earnings replacement

  • Bereaved Parent’s Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance (if looking after a partner or child on DLA Care)

Additional benefits

  • Child Benefit
  • Disability Living Allowance – for adults and or children (Care from birth, Mobility from 5)
  • Guardian’s Allowance
