Further landslip at Pantteg
16 February 2018
Neath Port Talbot Council engineers, whilst carrying out routine monitoring inspections of the Pantteg landslip area at Ystalyfera in the Swansea Valley, have identified a further landslip which has taken place opposite Pantteg Chapel in the centre of Pantteg Village.
Approximately 10 tonnes of material has slid down the steep embankment and come to rest.
The highway remains open and is unaffected.
The area has been identified by the Council’s specialist Geologists, Earth Science Partnership (ESP) as an area of very high risk.
The site continues to be monitored.
The debris from this recent slip – at the same site as a previous landslip in 2012 - will now be removed when the planned enhancement works to a retaining bund positioned opposite the Chapel are carried out.
The work is scheduled to begin at the beginning of March this year.
