Press Release

Mobile Covid Testing Unit comes to Pontardawe

17 August 2021

In response to increasing Covid infection rates in the area, a mobile testing unit will be visiting Pontardawe in the coming days, to offer a convenient drop-in testing option for people with either the ‘classic’ signs of coronavirus or other symptoms they may feel are unusual for them or their child.

These may include flu-like symptoms, including any or all of:

  • myalgia (muscle ache or pain);
  • excessive tiredness;
  • persistent headache;
  • runny nose or blocked nose (unless this is a known hay fever symptom for the individual);
  • persistent sneezing;
  • sore throat and/or hoarseness, shortness of breath or wheezing;

Testing will also be open to anyone generally feeling unwell who has been in contact with a known COVID-19 case, or anyone with new or changed symptoms following a previous negative test.

Whilst restrictions have been eased, we all still have to play our part in stopping the spread of the virus. Getting tested will help to support our local businesses to keep safe and trading.

A booking will not be needed, people can simply turn up and be tested if they have any of the above or the three ‘classic’ coronavirus symptoms:

  • Fever
  • a new continuous cough
  • or a loss/change of taste and smell

Following the test, people will be instructed how to register their results.

The Mobile Testing Unit will be located at the coach car park next to Cwmtawe Community School at Ffordd Parc Ynysderw, Pontardawe, SA8 4EG from Wednesday 18th August to Thursday 19th August and will offer ‘drop-in’ testing from 10am-6pm.

Swansea Bay University Health Board is now offering testing for the expanded range of symptoms across its testing facilities, although booking is required at the other venues. This can be done at: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
