Update 7/9/2017

Neath Port Talbot Council is holding a public meeting this evening (Thursday) to update the local community on the Pantteg landslip.

The meeting is taking place at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera and begins at 7pm. The meeting will be chaired by the Chief Executive Steven Phillips and Council Leader, Cllr Rob Jones will be on the panel. In addition, council staff from housing, engineering and environmental health will be available for the public to ask questions.

Ahead of the meeting, the council has published a new ‘Hazard Map’ of the area. The map has been prepared by specialist engineering and geological consultants ‘Earth Science Partnership’, who have been helping the council to monitor the landslip area in Pantteg since 2015.

The hazard map represents the first stage of a modern assessment of landslide hazard and risk in line with international standards. The plan categorises the area into three hazard zones - Lower Hazard, Moderate Hazard and Higher Hazard.

The ongoing data monitoring will enable us to prepare an assessment of risk in relation to property, infrastructure and land within each of these hazard zones, with the main focus being on the higher hazard zone.
