Relocation of Godre’r Graig Primary School: Position update

Published 28 August 2019

Neath Port Talbot Council’s plan to provide demountable classrooms for use by Godre’r Graig Primary School pupils in their own dedicated area at Cwmtawe Community School is on track to be completed by the first week of September.

A recent meeting of the Council’s Godre’r Graig Primary School Task Force group heard how workers are committing to 12 hour shifts in order to complete tasks such as fitting data cabling, installing electrical systems and carrying out carpentry work on the classrooms as they are delivered by contractors.

The first demountable arrived on site last Friday, August 16th, the second arrived on Tuesday, August 20th, the third arrived on Thursday August 22nd and the fourth and final unit arrived on Tuesday, August 27th.

The demountables have been supplied by a firm based in Scotland, the Council having scoured the country for contractors with the expertise and equipment available to put the classrooms in place quickly and safely.
Western Power provided power for the site on Friday, August 23rd and planning permission for the work has been approved.

Transport arrangements for Godre’r Graig Primary School pupils (plus the nursery pupils) have now been made and the new routes and timetables plus pick-up points have been communicated to parents by letter.

School meals will be provided for pupils via the Cwmtawe Community School’s catering facilities. We are currently unable to commit to providing a Breakfast Club for the first few months however children will receive a morning snack and these arrangements will be reviewed on a regular basis.

In order to ensure all arrangements are finalised and pupils will be returning to a safe and fully equipped school it can now be confirmed that the school will open to all pupils on Monday 9th September. However, it needs to be emphasised that we are still subject to some conditions that may not necessarily be within our control. This could affect the target opening date for pupils. If this is the case, we will ensure that communication is facilitated via the school’s twitter account and our dedicated webpage.

If there are any questions or issues from parents or others affected by the new arrangements they should contact the Council’s dedicated e-mail address for Godre’r Graig Primary school, godrergraig@npt.gov.uk. In addition further updates will be provided by senior leaders of Godre’r Graig Primary School via their Twitter account and website.
