Neath Port Talbot Council has been successful in securing a European grant of £1.1million towards the cost of new street furniture in Station Road and Forge Road and refurbishment of the existing shopfront canopy in Station Road.
Station Road and Forge Road now have new stainless steel and wooden street furniture including benches, tables, bollards, bins and lighting pillars as well as planters.
The main feature of the works is the refurbishment of the shopfront canopy along the pedestrian section of Station Road.
The existing structure has been remodelled and decorated to make it look more attractive and in keeping with the new street furniture. The curved plastic cover has been removed and replaced with straight panels of laminate glass creating more light and a more pleasant shopping experience.
Port Talbot Parkway Station
Plans for the multi million pound investment for Port Talbot railway station have been given the green light.
The station was the subject of extensive renewal works in the 1960s and was designated as a ‘Parkway’ in the 1980’s. Around ½ million passengers use the station every year and the proposed redevelopment has been welcomed.
