Deadline for registering to vote in the General Election
Register by 11:59pm on 26 November to vote in the General Election on 12 December.
The way we all register to vote has changed
The registration system changed in June 2014. The new system is called ‘Individual Electoral Registration’ (IER) and is the biggest change to the voter registration system in 100 years.
Most people who are already registered will be transferred automatically to the new register. However some people will need to re-register in Neath Port Talbot. There are also people in the area who are not registered to vote at all and so need to register to have their say in elections.
If you weren’t registered previously, you can register under the new system at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
Why should I register?
- The information is required by law.
- If you are not registered, you cannot vote in elections.
- You may find it difficult to get credit, loans, phone contracts, a mortgage or bank account as the register is used by credit reference agencies.
