Who can apply?
You may be able to get a reduction on your Council Tax bill if you, or an adult or child living with you, is permanently disabled.
To qualify for a reduction your home must have at least one of the following
- A room that has been modified for the disabled person. For example, a room used to store dialysis equipment. (This does not apply if a downstairs room has been converted into a bedroom.)
- A second bathroom or kitchen that the disabled person needs to use. (Both rooms must have full facilities, eg bath or shower, WC and basin)
- Alterations for a wheelchair to be used indoors, for example, door frames being made wider, walls removed for the wheelchair
We may need to visit your property to confirm that it fulfils the necessary criteria.
How much is the reduction?
If you qualify for a reduction, we will reduce your Council Tax bill to the amount payable in the next lowest band, for example if your property is in a (no a) band D we will reduce your bill to a band C charge. If your property is in a valuation band A, we will still be able to reduce your bill.
