Description

I am a young man living in the Afan Valley area.  I have severe autism, learning difficulties, epilepsy and sensory dysfunction.  I need support with some challenging behaviours when out in the community and someone who has an awareness of seizures.  I have a friendly personality and like being outdoors.  I have minimal speech, but can communicate my basic needs and I like to maintain my independence as far as I am able.  I have no sense of danger, so would need to be supervised at all times to ensure my safety is maintained.  I need a personal assistant who would help and encourage my independence and social skills further.

Purpose

The role is to support me with engaging in social experiences in the community, such as going to the cinema, swimming, parks etc.

Tasks

• Assisting and supporting me with social activities, i.e. walking, swimming etc.
• Helping me develop independent living skills
• Any other reasonable duties.

Person Type

• has a positive and caring attitude in dealing with persons who have special needs, sensory impairment and epilepsy
• has a flexible and mature attitude to working patterns
• is a committed and reliable person, able to work under direction and who has the ability to work using own initiative, providing a safe, happy and stimulating care provision
• has previous experience of working with children/adults with special needs (desirable not essential)
• a person who enjoys physical and outdoor activities
• is able to identify dangers and act quickly and effectively should an issue arise
• is a car driver/owner (essential)

Hours

Up to 15 hours per month to be arranged for day time care, with flexible working primarily during the school holidays and occasional weekends.

  Rate of Pay: £8.91 per hour.
