Spare Seat Scheme

Pupils who live within the statutory walking distance from school (2 miles for primary or 3 miles for secondary) and live near to an existing school transport route, have the opportunity to make use of any spare seats on board certain vehicles on payment of the appropriate fee.

Under the Spare Seat Scheme, vehicles operating School Transport contracts do not deviate from the specified route to collect pupils who do not qualify for free transport.

If a new pupil who is entitled to free transport wishes to use the vehicle, it may be the case that pupils who are not entitled will have to vacate their seat.  If an advance payment has been made for the seat a refund will be given.

Application forms for the spare seat scheme can be downloaded below. More information is available by contacting the transport section
