Update 7/10/2021

The latest report from Earth Science Partnership has been published.

Given the hazard caused by the Cilmaengwyn spoil tip and its location in relation to the school building, the council commissioned further work from ESP to investigate remediation options for the tip.

The report sets out remediation options and associated risks and costs.

Update 9/3/2021

Residents living in an area near a quarry spoil tip in Godre’r Graig have been informed that the landslide risk to their properties is ‘low to very low’.

This follows a report by geological experts Earth Science Partnership (ESP) who, in addition to the investigation work focusing on the local primary school, were commissioned by Neath Port Talbot Council to carry out additional work, covering a wider area in the village of Godre’r Graig.

During their previous investigation work ESP discovered a medium level risk from a quarry spoil tip above Godre’r Graig Primary School which led to the temporary relocation of the school.

Mindful of concerns from local residents, the council asked ESP to carry out further detailed investigations and ground modelling to establish if there is any potential impact upon the residential area surrounding the school.
