Planning enforcement service

The Council has powers to control unauthorised development. It can take formal action to rectify a breach of planning control, where it is in the public interest to do so.

Planning enforcement charter

In January 2018 the Council adopted a Planning Enforcement Charter that aims to:

  • Provide an overview of the planning enforcement system. Includes a summary of what may constitute a breach of planning control
  • Details the processes and powers available to the Council
  • The policies and procedures showing the way NPT Planning Enforcement deal with complaints
  • Detail the service standards that we aim to achieve by:
    • Ensuring that enforcement complaints are dealt with correctly
    • Advising the complainants of the outcome of investigations

Before contacting the planning enforcement team, please read the Planning Enforcement Charter.

If you suspect a breach of planning control, customers are always asked to provide details of the complaint in writing.
