Council Tax text reminders

Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council is now using SMS - text messages to remind residents that their council tax is due.  This will help reduce the cost and improve the quality of services that the council provides.

Why are text messages being used?

Each month we have to issue reminders to a number of residents who, for a variety of reasons, have not paid their council tax. Obviously, we'd rather not send any reminder notices, as this costs a lot of money in terms of printing and postage, so we are looking at other ways to contact residents effectively and prevent further formal recovery action being required.

You'll only get a text if you have given us your number and we need to send you a reminder for an overdue amount of council tax or to request further information in relation to your account, for example to follow up on an application or review of a discount or exemption. The message will show as being from 'NPTCBC' and will give you a link to pay via our secure website.

Although we will endeavour to send a text reminder, this should not be relied upon and you should always ensure that your council tax instalment is paid by the due date.

Can I respond to the messages I receive?

You will not be able to respond to the messages. You can provide/discuss any information requested by phone on 01639 686188 or email council.tax@npt.gov.uk. Please remember to provide your name, address and council tax reference (which can be found on all documents issued and starts with a number 6).

Will I receive marketing/junk messages from this?

No. The service is totally confidential. This service will not generate any other marketing or text messages to your phone and no other company or organisation will be given your number for marketing purposes.
