Young Carers

What is a young carer?

A young carers is a child or young person under the age of 25 who has a caring role at home. This may be for a parent, brother, sister or other family member. 

Young carers provide care for many different reasons, it could be because of illness, disability, mental health or drug & alcohol dependency or old age.

What do young carers do?

Young carers often do more chores than other children, you may:

  • Do the housework
  • Go food shopping
  • Help with bathing and dressing
  • Provide emotional support
