Seven hours per week to be worked either on one day or over two days depending on plans that week. Days supported is required is a Wednesday and Thursday.
I am a gentleman in my 70s living in the Pontardawe area with my wife and just a short distance are my family who are very important to me. I am a Welsh speaker and would like to be able to converse with someone in Welsh. I enjoy reminiscing on times gone by as my short term memory isn't the best. You will often find me singing in Welsh and conversing in Welsh. My interests are sports and I enjoy watching rugby, football and cricket and talking about my time playing rugby.
Purpose
- Accompanying me in the community whether this be for a short walk around my local village or going further afield such as down to Aberavon for a cup of tea and a walk.
- Spending time with my in my home if the weather is poor having a chat about my interests, watching classic TV shows together or looking through old photos.
- Encouraging me to look at local groups that I could attend that would interest me. I currently attend a sporting memories group with my wife and may be interested in other groups available within the area.
- Helping me to maintain my wellbeing and engagement within my local community which is important to me.
Person Type
- Welsh speaker or avid learner is desirable as I like to converse in Welsh as this is my first language.
- Calm and patient as I can repeat myself and shout - not in an aggressive manner but may need to be reminded about the volume I am using.
- Has a good sense of humour and that I can have a laugh and a joke with.
- Understands dementia and the progression of this.
- Is a car owner and driver.

If requested by the employer, two satisfactory references must be provided. This post is subject to a trial period of 1 month and a probationary period of up to 6 months.
Wages will be paid on a 4 weekly or monthly basis once a valid National Insurance (NI) number has been provided. You must be eligible to work in the UK and your employer will conduct document checks prior to commencement.
You will receive the appropriate annual leave entitlement as well as all other statutory entitlements, details of which will be set out in your contract of employment. You will also be issued with a Personal Assistants Handbook when your employment commences.
You will be expected to undertake any mandatory training identified as relevant to this post. The cost of mandatory training will be met through the direct payment. Failure to attend mandatory training may result in your employment offer being withdrawn.
