Education Support Officer (Equity)

Fixed Term post until 31/08/2027 secondment opportunity.

We are currently looking for an experienced school leader to join our team on a two-year secondment to lead on equity, particularly the Community Focused Schools approach. Community Focused Schools is a priority for the local authority as an approach to mitigate the impact of poverty on education, and to support the alignment of services around the needs of pupils and their families.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Community Focused Schools manager and liaising with the work of the Family Engagement Officers network in NPT. There is a requirement to lead on this priority within the school development team and to represent NPT at national meetings and events. We are committed to supporting all schools across Neath Port Talbot to become Community Focused; developing opportunities for family engagement, community engagement and partnership working with multi-agency networks

The main duties of the post;

  • Collaborative working with strategic leads across the local authority to align service provision around the needs of children and their families.
  • Using qualitative evidence to influence the strategic direction of policy and practice at a local authority and Welsh Government level.
  • Leading schools to developing a deeper understanding of the needs of their communities.
  • Designing, delivering and evaluating professional learning opportunities for senior leaders to mitigate the impact of poverty on learning.
  • Leading on the roll out of phase two of Community Focused Schools, with support from the CFS manager.
  • Represent the local authority at national Community Focussed Schools local authority leads meetings and PDG co-ordinators meetings.
  • Share and support schools to implement Welsh Government educational equity guidance within the local authority.
  • Provide support to ESO’s to monitor and evaluate schools’ self-evaluation processes
  • Implement a problem-solving format where school leaders collaborate to review common issues, for example, attendance, behaviour, parental engagement.
  • Support headteachers to request ‘expert input’ via guest speakers who can share insight.
  • Share up to date research and encourage an enquiry-based approach to professional learning.
  • Provide detailed analysis of work undertaken and feedback provided through Welsh Government reporting systems.

You will have experience in/of;

  • Experience of working with community partners at a strategic and operational level
  • Experience of policy and strategy development
  • Experience in supporting school staff to develop parental engagement opportunities to realise the four core purposes of the Curriculum for Wales
  • Support all NPT schools to ensure effective use of the Pupil Development Grant.

Ideally you will have;

Experience of senior leadership in a school and evidence of a track record of tackling poverty in your school/setting.
