Domestic homicide reviews- Reviewing a death as a result of domestic violence

The Safer Neath Port Talbot Community Safety Partnership carries out a Domestic Homicide Review (DHR) when someone aged 16 or over dies due to domestic abuse. This can be violence, abuse or neglect by a relative, household member or someone they have been in an intimate relationship with.

The DHR will look at the circumstances that led to the death. This will help professionals understand what happened and what needs to change to reduce the risk of it happening again.

The DHR will be run by a review panel of members from the Safer Neath Port Talbot Community Safety Partnership, and is led by an independent chair.

The panel will look at each agency’s involvement in the case and might speak to the victim’s family, friends and work colleagues. They will then make recommendations to improve the response to domestic violence in the future.

The DHR report will not say how the person died, or who is to blame. The review takes place in addition to other inquiries.

Visit the government’s website for more information on domestic homicide reviews and Home Office statutory guidance (External link - Opens in a new tab or window).
