I am currently studying Health Care in Neath college. I attend Pontardawe campus on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and after I finish my course next July, I hope to go on to do a nursing degree. For the past two years, I have been completing my hairdressing apprenticeship in a salon in Bridgend. I have thoroughly enjoyed doing this and I have learned many new skills. I understand the need for confidentiality as many of the clients open up and confide in me. The salon attracts many different clients of all ages and I have learnt to adapt my approach accordingly. I consider myself to be a very good listener and I have been told that I am approachable with an excellent sense of humour. In the salon, it is essential that I am organised and I ensure that I clean up as I go along. We have several clients with varying disabilities and I adapt myself and the salons surroundings accordingly to make the clients feel as comfortable as possible. I pride myself on my patience and being kind. I try to show empathy at all times. At home, I help with cleaning, washing, cooking and clearing the dishes away. My mother will often give me a list and I will then do the food shopping for the family. I often babysit for my young cousins and enjoy reading and playing games with them. I have previously worked, voluntarily, in my local primary school and also in a charity shop, both of which I found very rewarding. I go visiting to a care home with my grandmother on Thursdays to see my grans friends who aren't very well. They all seem to love seeing me and comment on my bright smile and happy nature. I love meeting new people and helping those who want or need it.
