Emergency Duty Team Social Worker

Temporary unti the 31st August 2026

Grade 10 *GBP*45,091 to *GBP*49,282 per annum (plus market pay supplement of *GBP*3,000 per annum, pro rata - to be reviewed 31.03.2026) plus an enhanced rate of 30% for weekend working and double time for bank holidays, plus an AMHP allowance of *GBP*2,000 per annum.

 

Location of post: Home based working / Neath Civic Centre
Your workstyle will be a mobile hybrid worker in this role which gives you the flexibility to work from home and from a variety of Council workplaces.

 

About the role:

We are excited to be offering a 6 month temporary contract to join our Emergency Duty Team, which will be subject to review as we undertake a wider service review in the first half of 2026. This opportunity will give you the chance to help shape the future of our Emergency Duty Team. Our Emergency Duty Team is a vital part of Neath Port Talbots Children & Young People and Adult Services. We respond to urgent out of hours needs for vulnerable adults, children and young people (including youth justice). You will assess risk, make clear decisions, and take proportionate actions often alongside police, health, housing and other partners to keep people safe and supported. The service operates across evenings, nights and weekends, with a post midnight standby component as part of the rota.

 

What you will do
· Provide emergency social work support and safeguarding interventions out of hours.
· Undertake timely assessments, immediate safety planning and emergency placements where required.
· Exercise AMHP duties under the Mental Health Act, coordinating with partner agencies and ensuring rights based practice.
· Record clear decisions and hand over effectively to daytime services.
What you will bring
· A recognised social work qualification and registration with Social Care Wales.
· Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) status.
· Up to date knowledge of legislation and good practice across adults and childrens social care.
· Sound professional judgement, excellent communication skills, and the ability to remain calm and solution focused under pressure.
