Specialist Advisor
Specialist Advisor – Supporting Learners with Physical and Health Related Needs.
We are currently seeking a qualified individual to join our team as a Specialist Advisor for Supporting Learners with Physical and Health Related Needs to join our Inclusion team within the Education Directorate. This newly established full time permanent role will be with immediate effect and secondments will be considered. We welcome applications from professionals from either an Education or Medical background, with relevant skills and experience.
The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues both in the Support for Learning Service and wider Inclusion Service, to ensure reasonable adjustments for Children and Young People with a physical / medical need are in place and best possible outcomes are achieved.
As a specialist advisor for supporting learners with physical and health related needs., you will provide specialist expertise, advice, guidance and training for schools and early years settings, regarding pupils with physical, medical and health related needs, including the development, implementation and review of Individual Health Care Plans (IHCPs). The role ensures that early years’ settings and schools meet their statutory duties and adopt best practice approaches in supporting pupils with health conditions, enabling full access to education.
The post holder will be required to build effective relationships and work in partnership with both internal and external stakeholders including schools, families and health professionals to ensure safe, inclusive practice, compliance with statutory duties and increase school capacity to meet pupils’ physical, medical and health-related needs.
The post holder will also have responsibility for the coordination and delivery of relevant training and have oversight of specialist equipment as well as represent the Inclusion Service within regional and local groups (for example Disability Access Group) as well school and Local Authority Accessibility Plans.
Do you have:
- A degree or relevant professional qualification within the field of Education and / or Healthcare.
- Evidence of continuing professional development related to Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and or medical / health related needs.
- Postgraduate qualification in ALN/SEN, inclusion or a related field.
- Accredited training relating to children with medical conditions or specific health needs.
You will have experience of:
- Supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs.
- Developing individual plans (e.g., Individual Education Plans, Individual Development Plans, Pastoral Support Plans, Individual Healthcare Plans).
- Working collaboratively with parents, health professionals and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Providing advice, modelling practice or supporting colleagues in a school / setting or advisory capacity.
- Delivering training or professional learning to school staff, Local Authority staff or wider stakeholders.
- Producing clear, accurate and professional written reports and records.
- Working directly with pupils with complex or long-term medical needs
- Supporting children and young people with medical or complex needs within educational settings.
- Healthcare planning, risk assessment and inclusive practice.

- Health professionals
- Other professionals with experience of working within the fields of education and health
