Be a Councillor

  • Do you care passionately about your local community?
  • Is there something you want to change?
  • Are you ready to take challenging decisions?
  • Why not stand for what you care about and become a local councillor?

Being a councillor is a rewarding form of public service that puts you in a unique position where you can make decisions about local issues and improve the quality of life for people within Neath Port Talbot. It gives you the opportunity to help your local community and be part of a dedicated team providing key services for your area.

Councillors are elected by people in their community to represent them and make decisions on their behalf. Being a councillor is rewarding, challenging and enjoyable and you can change people’s lives for the better.

It’s important that councillors are like the people who elect them so that they can represent all the different views in the community and take decisions that benefit everyone.

Wales needs more women, people from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic communities, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people and young people to stand for election.
