Port Talbot Integrated Transport Hub – New Access Road
21 April 2017
On the evening of Monday 24th April, the new permanent access between the A48 Heilbronn Way and Station Road in Port Talbot will be open to vehicles. This will help to improve traffic flow and facilitate further construction of an open pedestrian space.
Port Talbot Integrated Transport Hub
This improvement is part of the on-going construction of the Council’s new £5.6m Integrated Transport Hub, which compliments the £11.3m redevelopment of Port Talbot Parkway Railway Station by Network Rail in 2016.
Access to Port Talbot Parkway Railway Station will remain unaffected and direct access will be available to and from the Arriva Trains Wales car park throughout.
The new Integrated Transport Hub will centralise main transport links including Port Talbot Parkway station, a new bus hub, cycle facilities, a taxi rank and drop-off and pick-up bays in a largely pedestrian-dominated concourse, providing easier access for all to employment and residential areas in and around the town.
The Port Talbot Integrated Transport Hub forms part of the Council’s Vibrant and Viable Places Regeneration Programme, funded by the Welsh Government, and supported by the Local Transport Fund and EU Funds.
Gareth Nutt, Director of Environment said: “This is an important milestone for us, marking a major phase in the construction of the Port Talbot Integrated Transport Hub project. Improving transport and connectivity are priorities for Neath Port Talbot Council in helping to improve the economic prosperity for our local areas. This project will not only improve access to employment opportunities, but will enhance the image of Port Talbot as a key gateway to the County Borough”.
David Evan Williams, Contract Manager for Andrew Scott Ltd said: “We would advise road users to be vigilant whilst all users familiarise themselves to the new access to and from station road. Roadwork’s will be on-going and we will endeavour to cause the minimum disruption possible to traffic and pedestrians.”
