But that doesn’t necessarily mean slogging away on a treadmill or joining a gym - not when we have amazing countryside and seaside walks on our doorstep right here in Neath Port Talbot.

The county borough is 75% covered in quiet forests and imposing hills, contains a sensational seafront at Aberavon with views across Swansea Bay to Mumbles Head and is blessed with woodland walks plus world class cycle paths which vary from beginner to adventure seeker.

And if that’s not enough, the Vale of Neath has some of Britain’s most spectacular scenery in its breath-taking “Waterfall Country” and of course, for culture fans, alongside well established galleries and arts venues, there is also Wales’s first Banksy art work to see in Taibach, Port Talbot.

The county borough is a kind of free outdoor gym in which you can refresh yourself both mentally and physically while at the same time taking in beautiful scenery and bracing fresh air letting yourself relax and unwind – for nothing.

For walkers seeking the great outdoors Neath Port Talbot has a fantastic range of walks on offer ranging from the Aberavon Seafront to the towns and valleys of the county borough.

The Travel Adventures Wales website offers inspiration for walks in the area which use our public transport network.

Walks ranging from Richard Burton’s birth place in Pontrhydyfen and rural rambles in the Swansea Valley have been put together by Baytrans, an organisation which promotes public transport to both visitors and residents to the county.  The full range of walks can be accessed via
