NPT Safe and Well service to support vulnerable residents in self-isolation

Neath Port Talbot Council has launched a free service to support vulnerable residents who have been told to self-isolate but don’t have any support from family, friends or neighbours.
Known as NPT Safe and Well, the service will arrange for a trusted volunteer to help with daily living tasks such as food shopping, collecting deliveries, posting mail and any other reasonable tasks.
The service has been set up in response to those who have been identified as medically vulnerable by the NHS. More than 4000 residents living in Neath Port Talbot have been told to self-isolate for 13 to 16 weeks to lower the risk of contracting the coronavirus.
The NPT Safe and Well service will ensure that anyone who has been identified as medically vulnerable can call on someone for support. It is not a health and social care service.
Councillor Rob Jones, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, said:
“We have been working closely with local councillors, voluntary organisations and housing associations to coordinate how best to support those who need it. Steps have also been taken to ensure that everyone involved in delivering the service is fully aware of the government guidelines on social distancing.
“The communities of Neath Port Talbot are really stepping up at this very challenging time and we are confident that by working together, we can help support those who are medically vulnerable and isolated.”
