Video captures Neath Port Talbot’s ‘We can do it together’ spirit

14 May 2020

Since the start of the Coronavirus emergency, life has changed for everyone and Neath Port Talbot Council has now produced a video which sends a message of thanks to its residents for their positivity and unbreakable community spirit.

Video captures Neath Port Talbot’s ‘We can do it together’ spirit

The short film, posted on social media using the #NPTtogether hashtag, lists some of the achievements in Neath Port Talbot since the emergency began and celebrates the way people in Neath Port Talbot have stuck together.

Neath Port Talbot Council Leader, Cllr Rob Jones said: “This short film captures the community spirit that is typical of people in our County Borough here in the heart of South Wales and it also looks at our innovation, adaptability and tenacity.

“These are unprecedented times but people living here, both those on the front line in the fight against Coronavirus and those sticking to the lockdown rules have worked together, helped each other and shown considerable grit.”

The video celebrates the establishment of a new field hospital in Llandarcy in an incredible few weeks and recognises that more than 600 people stepped up to become volunteers in the new NPT Safe and Well service (aiding vulnerable people).

The newly formed service is now helping more than 1,000 vulnerable residents as they protect themselves from the virus at home

The video shows how some local famous names from the world of entertainment and sport paid their own tribute to Neath Port Talbot’s community spirit by sending messages of support to the volunteers – they included Hollywood star Michael Sheen, actor, writer and comedian Rob Brydon and former Wales and British and Irish Lions star Richard Hibbard.

During the crisis, the Council has worked side by side with the many community groups that have established themselves right across the area and with partner agencies including Tai Tarian, Age Cymru, the CVS, Pobl, the Swansea Bay University Health Board, South Wales Police and the Coastal Housing Group to name but a few.

Cllr Jones added: “Many of our innovative and adaptable local firms have been repurposing their factories to provide vital personal protective equipment for those on the front line of the fight against Coronavirus including of course our valiant NHS staff and care workers.

“Although the pandemic is far from over at the moment, I’m sure we’ll look back at this film with pride in some years because it shows how considerably well people in this area reacted to one of the worst health emergencies in living memory.”
