Ban on sale of menthol cigarettes from May 20th, 2020
15 May 2020
Smokers in the UK will no longer be able to buy menthol cigarettes when new smoking laws come into force on 20th May, 2020.
The new rules have been introduced to deter people from smoking and to stop young people taking up smoking.
The ban will take menthol cigarettes and cigarettes with menthol crushable capsules etc off the shelves and is part of the four-year phasing-out period that falls under the EU Tobacco Product Directive.
Retailers are reminded they will need to remove any such product from sale by midnight on the 19th May 2020 or face prosecution.
Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Public Protection, Cllr Leanne Jones, said: “All cigarettes are harmful and menthol cigarettes are just as dangerous as normal cigarettes.
